Question about Annual Membership
When you pay the €20, do you get your dogs Pedigree/Papers with that too, or will that be different?
Also, is the entrance fee staying at €8? Will regestered people/dogs still have to pay the full amount?
Think of it this way, if you have 2 dogs and go to just one event a month, you're paying €200 a year! That's a lot of money for what it is :)

Re: Question about Annual Membership
The way I look at it the €20 broken down over 20 weeks is €1 a week plus €8 at the gate means for €9 you get 5 or 6 hours enjoyment on a Sunday participating with your dog, now for €75 ye can go to the aviva stadium to sit in a bad seat for 90 mins and watch ireland play footbal or rugby, if you go to the cinem with your girlfriend, wife or kids your lookin at atleast 30quid. IMO the €9 is pretty good value for money for a good family day out. JMO
Re: Question about Annual Membership
thanks for your questions Harry and I understand that the more dogs you wish to reg as annual members can be a little costly, but in order to run these events it costs money and last year someone else was paying for it so I thought it was about time we all contributed a little towards it.
No nothing to do with peds this is just to be able to compete for points (league & Champ) and qualify for champs. Everyone can take part in these days out reg or not but if you want earn points then its only fair that it is open to members only. When you pay the €20, do you get your dogs Pedigree/Papers with that too, or will that be different?
Entrance fee is a tenner we have to be able to cover costs of the day and believe me when I say we are yet to make any money for the Sunday days out. Also, is the entrance fee staying at €8? Will regestered people/dogs still have to pay the full amount?
I am in that category as long as Brock is here with me but if you break that down to a weekly expense then it doesnt seem to bad. It is possible to run 25 days over the 2012 only costing €11.25 for what I regard is a really good day out and thats if you live relatively near the venue. my weekly expenses would be slightly higher needing €40 worth of deisel before I leave the house at least. If we all want to continue with the leagues and champs and gain awards then there has to be a kitty to pay for them plain and simple, for those that dont want to participate in them they dont have to.Think of it this way, if you have 2 dogs and go to just one event a month, you're paying €200 a year! Re: Question about Annual Membership
I was only thinking about this meself the other day .
If I attend every day with 2 of the dogs it will set me back about €500 .
Now phil you can look at it how ye like but i'll look at it as paying €500 euro so me dogs can run around doing A-frame and lure chasing thats a years feed for the dogs or insurance for me car its a bit steep is it not?

Re: Question about Annual Membership
Just to compare other clubs/organisations you can join with your dog or what it costs to take part in a training session
2 hour workshop on how to recall your dog €25
5 week course 1 hour per week €125
To become an annual member of Galway dog club it is €25. As far as I know that only gives you a concession on sunday socialising days for an hour which is an additional fiver.
All classes are run over 6 weeks for an hour each and cost €125

Thanks Jules,
That was a well put together answer and cleared up everything.
I can't wait to get Eddie going at it. He's 6 months today so he'll probably be competing properly by the end of next year. When is the first of 2012?

It doesn't look too bad per weak compared to those!
Do you know any where I could bring Eddie to around here?

James I know there are lots of alternative ways in which the money can be put to good use but to run these events in a proper and hopefully professional manner it has to come out of someones pocket. If it was as easy to run and cost very little then everybody would be at it. 99.9% of people taking part live in County Dublin so the venue has to be there and land fencing rental etc is expensive not forgetting the all important insurance. We could all just meet up in the park and go for a walk but unless we have places like this alot of these dogs would never be let of the lead. If anyone has other ways of getting round this then we would all love to hear them. These events are not part of any BSL rules or conditions on keeping these dogs therefore no-one is forced into doing them....all we want to do is try and provide a social net work for APBT owners where these dogs can been seen first hand doing what they do best and by that I mean racing, pulling weights and jumping. I mean what more can we do with these dogs????

Re: Question about Annual Membership
has concessions for ppl with multiple dogs been looked at to encourage them to bring multiple dogs to events, rather than just attending with one ?
& out of curiosity , is the insurance public liability or occupiers liability ?
I'm in the same position as Jules, diesel cost would average 40euro to attend a 1 day event/training session, so it's relatively inexpensive for anyone local with only one dog

Re: Question about Annual Membership
I've been there nearly evey week since the start and more than likely will be there next year i've no probs.
I think this is a good topic cause ppl can see and work out for themselves what their over all costs will be before they get into it rather than realising half way through the season that they could get the sofa and free telly off cost plus sofas for what its costing to do events every sunday
With these activities you are paying to have your dog socialised and to be guided by a professional qualified dog trainer so they can hardly be compared to the events where each of us are on the same level as far as events are concerned .

with all due respect Ivor you only turned up once last year and to be honest I don't really think that this is your cup of tea therefore to be asking about our insurance cover is quite irrelevant. I can assure you we have adequate cover enabling us to legally run these events on a weekly basis.

Re: Question about Annual Membership
In fairness Jules, Ivor has unsocial able hours with his job as he has to work on people when they aren't working. He was also busy with a litter of Pitbulls early in the year and AmStaff's later on. He did make an attempt and got to go to one late in the year.

James I was simply answering Harry's comment " you're paying €200 a year! That's a lot of money for what it is :)" by saying I actually think it's good value for money, I'm not saying that 500euro isn't a huge expence because I know it is and I agree with ye at the end of the year we could all do with an extra 500quid in our back pocket, all I'm saying is at the end of the day these days are a luxury and I'm comparing it to other luxuries and I think it's good value for money.
If I cant afford to be there some weeks I won't go but I will try my best spare the price of a couple of pints to get my dog up on a Sunday for something that I probably get more pleasure out of then she does.
Re: Question about Annual Membership
Most of ye smoke so cut down on that a bit
I only make €40 a week so it's me it's affecting the most

Re: Question about Annual Membership
I have kept this to myself till now and ill ask ya this guys were do you think this came from...
To start off with..
without going into to much detail, 750 euro was spent on expenses which enabled our friends from the uk to help us introduce these events.
The school on the day of event cost 35euro hour plus 10euro hour for care taker.
we were there for 2 days and 8 hours both days = 720euros.
flyers 68euro.
Tickets for the ACES event cost 45 euro
Sleds 150euro
orange webbing 50euro
Introduction ACES day trophy's 120euro
grass cut on 3 occasions at 100 euro =300 euro
renting projector for seminar = 79euro
Food donated....
approx 16 weeks for fencing.. 16x150 = 2400euro
stakes for fencing 98euro
stolen fencing 240euro donated by a member.
approx 16 weeks rent for the field.. 800euro
yearly insurance 495euro
Trophy's for championships = 795euro.
Rossetts= 195euro
TOTAL = EURO 7,065 AND WE CAN ASSURE YOU ALL THAT THERE WAS NO WAY NEAR THAT MADE TRUE RUNNING DAYS WE DIDN'T EVEN MAKE HALF WAY.
LOST COUNT OF THE AMOUNT OF WEEKS WHEN THINGS WERE SLOW AND HAD TO TAKE 30 EURO OR 40 EVEN TO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE UP TO PAY FOR THE DAY!
How many sofas WOULD that have got me.
Now im going to be quite frank 20euro membership and the 10euros people are paying for days out and championship days were trophy's are needed might not even cover the cost of this year, as said before if people want to just come on a day and run there dogs thats fine no1 is making anyone join if you dont like it then dont do it simple!
just to clarify something with you James that some of the trainers in question that are certified dog trainers and behaviorists when dealing with this breed have on many occasions rang me and asked my opinion if they thought i could help in anyway, i have and will be running my own dog obedience classes next year so in all fairness if someone comes to me at an event and asks me to help with something i would consider myself qualified enough to do so and if i couldn't i would pass them onto someone i think could. Up at events people can gain more than you can gain at any training classes etc, theres nowhere here in Ireland that even wants to deal with this breed.
Im wondering does Tony o Neil worry how far people have to travel to get to the kennel club for a show???
Ibor when you take your dogs to an IKC show are there concessions for more than 1 entry?? and is there considerations taking for how much deisel you have used to get to the show, oh and out of curiosity does the IKC have public liability insurance or occupiers liability?

Re: Question about Annual Membership
@ Jules, with all due respect , you don't know me , so it's not for you to say whether it's my cup of tea or not
but I take it from your post that you'd prefer if I didn't attend in the future
@ Harry, I appreciate the support, you are right I don't have very many free weekends
@ Lilly, my question about insurance was referring to cost, public liability is often more expensive than occupiers, but both may give adequite cover, I was actually trying to be helpful when asking which one was been used
I was also agreeing with Jules about the extra expense for ppl outside of Dublin, & that for anyone local to the events that it is good value, so I don't see why you choose to use the IKC reference, I never complained about cost
As for the consessions for ppl with more than one dog, this would not affect me as I wouldn't be attending events every week, the question was really only related to ppl like James with multiple dogs who attend regular events
it's nice to see that when someone is attempting to be helpful that their post is taken up the wrong way entirely , eh Jules

You are right Ivor I dont know you but I can only deduce that you haven't an interest because you only attended the champ event last year and I have no qualms atall about you attending the event in the future. I am sure if James has any concerns about costs etc he will be able to speak for himself as he has already done so.

Re: Question about Annual Membership
ibor dont take me up the wrong way, i never said anything in my post that was to insulted you in any way, i simply asked you the same questions you were putting to us about what we are providing, so seen as you would know more about the kennel club than i would maybe you could compare both and tell us the difference???
do you not think from the price list above that the rate we have put up is fair price to try keep up these days for next year??
as you know most of our stuff was robbed out of the field so before we even start we have to fork out for fencing etc for 2012.
If we dont charge membership then were is the money to come from?
ibor all comments are taking on board and of course we are open to help people if we can, but we also need help because the fact is these days cost money to run and they dont come cheep. We were very fair as you can see from the cost of last year but this year we cant afford it.

Re: Question about Annual Membership
If I can make one suggestion R.E. Fencing, those panels are €40 each, you spent 2,400 on them. You could buy 60 of them brand new at that price. I don't think we had that many last year.
And with all the construction companies gone bust in the last 3yrs, I'm sure there's lots laying around that might go even cheaper.
