pitbull pups being sold as staffords
i bought a pup a while back and posted pictures of him asking peoples opinions on what they thought as i had my suspicions about his breeding, i saw the mother and father, mother was definitely a stafford but the father was alot taller and according to the owner he was 6st in weight, when i saw the dog he did look roughly that weight, the pup is now 15 weeks and standing as tall as my mates stafford bitch and shes 5. the brother also went and bought what he told me was a stafford, it wasnt til i saw the pictures he sent that shes red nosed... staffords dont come with red noses as far as i know. shes also far too leggy to be a stafford. just suprised at the number of pitbulls iv seen being passed off as staffords in n.ire. but lets keep that between ourselves as i dont want the plod coming and lifting my pup just because of his breed.

Unfortunely thats what is happening in N.Ire & Britian. And When The Dog Wardens/Police Come Knocking On The Door, The Have No Way To Prove The Its Not A Pitbull. If They Think It Looks 'LIKE' A Pitbull It Will Be Removed & Most Likey PTS!! Im Sure They Are Ways Around It Like Getting Fake Staffy Papers Etc , But There's Always That Chance!

Hello,
best thing to do is get the dog into a training club, keep it well socialised, get proper vet care, always keep the dog under control and on a lead of some sort when in public, take poo bags when you walk the dog and protect your dog by being responsible. Lots of people in the UK have leggy Staffy's that could be regarded as 'Pitbull Type' with no trouble. It's the idiots and the back yard breeders that draw attention to themselves that can potentially get into bother. Of course, totally innocent families have had their pet taken from them too of course, but the more proof of having a well trained dog, the better if it does get difficult.
The Scottish Association for Country Sports (SACS) will provide full legal cover to members whose dogs are in danger of being confiscated. Look into the merit or otherwise of this yourself.
cheers,Mike

That's a very interesting thing there you said about legal representation, would never have thought that would happen.
It's strange that two organisations have the 'SACS' name, there's the 'Southern Athletic Canine Soceity' who are similar to ACES who we deal with.
SACS tho in fairness, a pretty stupid name like... Ball SACS if you didn't like them I suppose

Hi Harry,
there was discussion regarding the legal cover on a couple of forums and I thought it worth a gamble, but I do not know how effective it would be if someone did get a dog taken away.
cheers,Mike

Hello,
found this article:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
This shows that they will insure dogs that are being described as pitbull type. (There is also a reply from a disgruntled ex- member).
After reading this article, I would be happy to consider my legal expenses as being covered.
cheers,Mike
